Many circuits shown in this site have “forbidden states”, mainly in the mechatronics section, that can cause the power supply to shown out. The high current passing across the transistors in these conditions can bum them.

To protect the circuit against these conditions, fuses are recommended. The fuses are placed in seríes with the power supply, and their values depend on the motors and the transistors. It is a good rule of thumb to use fuses 2.5 to 3 times greater than the normal current drained by the motors.
