I have a car audio amplifier that has specifications of 12 V x 2 A. However, the manufacturer says its power is 100 W. Is this specification correct?

Of course, if it refers to RMS power is incorrect. The RMS or real power should always be less than the power consumed by the amplifier as energy cannot be created. So with 12 V x 2 A, we have a consumption of 24 W, which means that this amplifier certainly delivers less than 24 W of rms power. Of course, in order to sell their product better, many manufacturers have “masked” the actual power, speaking of PMPO, peak power and others that let you “increase” the numbers without changing the actual power. That is your case.
