I have a precision instrument and it burned a 1% tolerance resistor. Can I use a larger tolerance resistor?

While larger tolerance resistors are easier to find, certainly if you use one of them, the accuracy of your instrument will be affected. There is a possibility of using a common higher tolerance resistor if you find a bundle of resistors of normal value one that comes closest to the desired value. For this you can pick up a lot of resistors from nearby values and with a multimeter select the desired value. For example, if you need a 1.05 k ohm resistor, you can find a bundle of 1 k resistors that approaches this value with the desired accuracy (1%).
