I have an audio preamp that uses a BC548 and the gain I measured is 250. If I use a higher gain transistor, eg a BC549 with gain above 500, will the circuit amplify the signals better?

The transistors have gain ranges, for example, the BC548 goes from 125 to 800 and just what was in its circuit had gained 250. When designing a circuit, the minimum gain that the type of transistor to be used has. Thus, surely the design of your amplifier takes into account the gain 125 for the transistor and the polarization components are calculated to operate with these characteristics. Thus, even if the transistor is replaced by a higher gain, the polarization components are calculated to 125. The circuit will not amplify more …
