This proximity switch or approach relay uses only transistors and directly controls a Triac. The circuit is from 1990, but all components are common, and the JFET can be a BF245 or MPF102. The triac must be equipped with a heat sink and in the case of controlling a lamp it must be incandescent. Be careful not to touch the sensor, as the circuit is not isolated from the mains.
