In the figure we have a regulator circuit for output voltages of 0.5 to 10 V with currents up to 1.1 A, but which makes use of a lower value adjustment resistor. Note that the low tolerance of the resistors is important in order to maintain the set current at 1 mA. The input voltage for this circuit is 12 V. The circuit is suggested by Linear Technologies. The values of the components are due to the fact that they have a tolerance of 1% in this application.
