I have relays with a pair of 5A contacts, but I want to control an 8A load. I thought I could connect the pairs of contacts in parallel, but they told me that's not quite the case. How should I do?

Many think that the relay contacts should be associated in parallel when controlling more current. However, talking to Metaltex engineers they have actually confirmed that to get more current capacity in the relay contacts they should be connected in SERIES. What happens is that the main problem in controlling the high currents is the arc that forms when the contacts open and close. The serial connection increases the distance of the contacts in a faster way reducing the effects of the arc in high currents.
