“Is it possible to connect two 500 mA fuses in parallel to have a 1 A fuse in a circuit?”

As with many other components, we can not guarantee that the characteristics of the two fuses connected in parallel are exactly the same (resistance) and therefore the current in each is equally divided. As the current will divide unevenly, one of the fuses will burn before the other and then the other will burn out because it will receive the full current. This means that we can not say that the current that will cause the fuses to burn will be exactly 1 A. In fact, by the inequality of distribution we can say that it will be less. In short, it is not possible to use fuses in parallel unless we have a secure means of equally dividing the current between them.
