RS232C to TTL converter (CB12212E)

I found this circuit in a 1989 American publication called Electronics Handbook. The circuit converts RS232C signals to TTL signals. The transistor can be the BC548 and the diode 1N4148. The power is supplied with a 5 V source that can be used from the equipment with which the interface will be made.
