This circuit generates a linear sawtooth signal with frequency that depends on the capacitor next to the transistor collector. In this case, the frequency generated is 10 kHz. For higher frequencies, the circuit no longer has excellent linearity. The circuit can be powered by voltages from 5 to 15 V. An application is like a shield for microcontrollers since the trigger can be done by TTL signals.
