Considering that the speed of light is extremely great which makes us see a lightning flash instantly and the speed of sound is much less, marking the time between the instant of the radio and the instant the sound of thunder arrives we can know how far the event occurred. This is the purpose of this circuit, a digital indicator that already considers the speed of sound of approximately 340 m / s and that provides the indication in meters on a 4-digit display. To detect lightning the circuit uses an LDR and to detect thunder an electret microphone. CI1 is not a common component today but can be replaced by a common one. The double T causes the microphone to detect only the low frequency of thunder.
